Philosophical Viewpoints

"Vishram", which means rest, is a return to equilibrium. Healing is not a one-time treatment at Vishram Village; it's an ongoing journey. Every daily routine, every meal and every therapy is designed to bring the body, mind and spirit into harmony with the natural rhythms of life.

Guests are encouraged to embrace simplicity, including waking up earlier, doing yoga by the water, eating mindfully and connecting with nature. The philosophy of the retreat is to find balance — to help you rediscover inner harmony and slow down.

FAQs on Vishram Village Ayurveda

Here are questions that wellness travellers typically ask about Vishram Village. Responses have been prepared by our Chief Wellness Consulant, Aly Alidina. To know if Vishram Village is right for you, contact Aly by email or WhatsApp.
1. What makes Vishram Village unique?
Vishram Village presents a compelling alternative to the Ayurveda beach resorts, which are typically sold out between December and February.  During peak season, Vishram Village can be booked with relatively short notice. This is attractive to wellness travellers who make a spur-of-the-moment decision to go for an Ayurvedic detox or Panchakarma.

Vishram Village is also budget-friendly with all-inclusive rates starting around $130 USD per day. This is highly unusual for a boutique lakeside resort and presents an excellent bargain and value-for-money.

Whereas Vishram Village is not a beach resort, guests have been known to swim in the lake attached to the resort. In other words, the lake is safe for seasoned swimmers to take a dip.

Moroever, the North Cliff of Varkala and nearby beaches can be reached within 15 to 20 minutes by rickshaw or air conditioned taxi. Therefore, Vishram Village offers proximity to the beach, while enabling you to avoid the touristic and overtly commercialized pockets of Varkala.  In other words, Vishram Village offers a more authentic experience of rural Kerala.
2. Is Vishram suitable for beginners in Ayurveda and Panchakarma?
Vishram Village offers "newbies" a gentle introduction to Ayurveda. There are no mandatory treatments or procedures. Every treatment will be performed only with your consent. In other words, extreme procedures like vamana (vomitting) are not required or imposed.

Having said the above, if you are interested in a serious Panchakarma with heavy ghee drinking (snehapana) and purgation (virechana) and the full spectrum of enemas (basti), you can avail all of these therapies and more at Vishram Village.

In other words, Vishram Village offers you the flexibility to experience a deep detox or a gentle detox or something in between.
3. What is the recommended duration of stay?
A minimum of seven nights is recommended for basic detox and rejuvenation, while 14–21 days yield the best results.
4. Is the food strictly vegetarian?
Vishram Village offers flexible dietary options, including non-vegetarian options such as chicken and seafood.

If you are undertaking Panchakarma detox or Ayurvedic treatment for a specific ailment, it is highly recommended that you follow an Ayurvedic pure vegetarian diet.

While Ayurvedic food is primarily plant-based, dairy and ghee are part of an Ayurvedic diet. Dairy and ghee are considered medicines in India and highly suitable for various types of modern-day lifestyle diseases.

However, for those seeking a strictly vegan or Kosher diet, Vishram Village may not be the right place.
If you require a Kosher diet or a strictly vegan diet with no dairy or ghee, contact Ayurooms so that we can curate your wellness program accordingly, be it at Vishram or some place else.
5. Can guests explore Varkala?
Yes, Varkala Beach and nearby attractions are just minutes away. Day trips and cultural tours can be arranged.
6. Is Vishram Village suitable for workation or long stays?
Yes, the cottages are well-ventilated and equipped with Wi-Fi, ideal for long-term stays
7. How is Ayurooms associated with Vishram Village?
Vishram Village and Ayurooms enjoy a close working relationship. This enables Ayurooms to negotiate the best pricing in the market, special inclusions, and other services that ultimately enhance your experience at Vishram Village.

Ayurooms essentially acts as an honest broker, helping you secure not only the right Ayurveda package but also the best price and the best service at Vishram Village.

Importantly, Ayurooms can tell you whether Vishram Village offers the right level and scope of Ayurvedic treatment for your specific ailment(s). If Vishram Village is not right for you, Ayurooms will tell you in no uncertain terms.

Our goal at Ayurooms is to help you choose the right resort for your ailment, needs, time availabiity, and budget. Vishram Village may or may not be the right place for you. Don't rely on online reviews including what is written here. Talk to an expert. Contact Aly Alidina
8. Are airport transfers included?
Every curated package offered by Ayurooms includes complimentary airport transfers from and to Thiruvananthapuram Airport (airport code: TRV).

From TRV airport, the driving time to Vishram Village is approximatey 90 minutes.

If you require a pickup from Kochi or the bus station or anywhere else in Kerala, let us know and we will make the necessary arrangements.  Surcharges may apply, depending on the location of your required pickup or drop-off point.
9. What languages does the staff speak?
Malayalam is the local language. However, most staff members can communicate in basic English and Hindi. Some may be familiar with Tamil as well.
10. When should I book for Panchakarma?
It is best to book 2–3 weeks in advance, especially during peak season (November to March).
