The English novelist, Lewis Carroll, who wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is believed to have said, “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.”
COVID-19 is our present reality. And the battle against COVID-19 is a battle against reality. Many politicians have said that we are “at war” with COVID-19 and have likened the present-day scenario to wartimes, and have imposed restrictions on public movement and gatherings. And for good reason, no doubt. Although, if we are honest with ourselves, there is a nagging doubt at the back of our minds whether the right decisions have been taken on our behalf.
Social distancing and self-isolation, once frowned upon, are now recommended, required, and even praiseworthy behaviours. Unfortunately, however, we are also seeing an escalation in stress, fear, anxiety, restlessness and even despair as people try to cope with “lockdown”, which, in some countries, is tantamount to “house arrest” on a mass scale.
So how do we change our reality? Is there any antidote to the monotony, misery and boredom that many of us feel without the stimuli of our normal freedoms, social life and workplace? If there is no physical vaccine for COVID-19, is there a spiritual one?
There is indeed. A vaccine. An antidote. A spiritual force for changing our reality.
It’s called: IMAGINATION

COVID-19 is an opportunity for all of us to utilize, strengthen, kindle and rekindle our God-given gift of imagination, which is a tool that needs to be sharpened from time to time. Otherwise, if it sits in some remote cabinet of the mind for too long – while we are “busy” with life – it becomes dull or even lost in the clutter of other things stored in the mind.
So here are 7 handpicked quotes that will hopefully inspire each of us to summon the spiritual force of imagination and put it to work in our lives. In so doing, it may just change our reality or, at the very least, help us find new ways to cope with reality, more happily.

Quote #1 – Imagination is more important than knowledge
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” – Albert Einstein

Quote #2 – Imagination is one of humanity’s greatest qualities
“Imagination is one of humanity’s greatest qualities – without it, there would be no innovation, advancement or technology, and the world would be a very dull place.” – Richard Branson Quote #3 – Imagination are the wings by which we can fly “The man who has no imagination has no wings.” – Muhammad Ali Quote #4 – Increase your imagination, increase your impact “The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.” – Tony Robbins |
Quote #5 – Imagination is a projection of possibilities
“Imagination is the projection of a possibility which creates the future. Imagination is part of Will, the projection of an intention. We must imagine something as a possibility before we can do it. If we are going to move our hands, for example, we must first imagine doing it. Imagination allows us to project future action, like planning out a trip before taking it. Sensory perception is remembered through imagination. Whatever we have experienced through the senses, the mind can imagine. This ability to reimagine things is the basis for developing knowledge of the world.” – David Frawley, author of Ayurveda and the Mind: The Healing of Consciousness |
Quote #6 – Everything we buy started out in someone’s imagination
“When you imagine things, it's actually God showing you a preview of a coming attraction he has for you. The biggest dream killer is telling small minded people what's in your imagination. Wondering why your friends or family shot down one of your best ideas? Because God gave it to you and not them. The things that have been in your imagination... you have to start working on them. These are the gifts that God has for you. Practically everything we use or purchase started out as an idea in someone's imagination. Your cell phone, your car, etc. The things in your imagination aren't there by chance. You have to act on them now.” – Steve Harvey

Quote #7 – The wrong use of imagination can create psychological problems
“In its wrong action, imagination creates wishful thinking that causes illusions. We imagine something to be true when it does not correspond to anything real. We confuse being able to imagine something with actually doing it. This creates many psychological problems we may imagine many things about ourselves – that we are wise, right or holy – which may have no real basis in our behavior. We confuse our emotional reactions, our personal likes and dislikes, with what things actually are.” – David Frawley, author of Ayurveda and the Mind: The Healing of Consciousness
Final Word
Everything is the result of imagination. Even COVID-19. If you don’t believe me, just watch the movie, Contagion, which depicts a situation remarkably similar to the one we are facing today. COVID-19 started as a thought in someone’s mind, became a motion picture, and then became a reality. And if that movie did help to manifest, or at least foreshadow, the spread of a pernicious virus, then we should also stop dismissing The Terminator series as Hollywood fantasia and rather interpret it as part of a wider dystopian narrative that is quickly becoming our reality. But alas, this blog is not about predicting the future of society. It is about changing our reality at the level of each individual – by each individual.
Let us use the lockdown as an opportunity to nurture and stretch our imagination to new heights: in the service of a united humanity; in the service of positivity; and not in the service of negativity, division or fear, which lead to psychosis.
Happy imaginings!
