Why adopt an Ayurveda lifestyle?
A popular misconception about Ayurveda is that it is a tool or system for losing weight. Indeed, one of the main reasons that people go to an Ayurvedic resort is to lose weight, but then in a short time, the weight usually comes back... and sometimes with a vengeance. Why? Because unless we make positive dietary and lifestyle changes, weight loss is rarely sustainable. In other words, you can go to an Ayurvedic resort, undergo a proper 21-day panchakarma, do yoga twice a day, and eat very healthy, and in the process lose a ton of weight. But unless the yoga is maintained and unless certain disciplines are observed, the weight-loss benefits of an Ayurvedic detox are usually short-lived. But alas, losing weight is not the central purpose of Ayurveda.
The main reason to go to an Ayurvedic resort and to adopt an Ayurvedic lifestyle thereafter is to develop new habits that can replace old habits, and to develop new routines that can replace old routines, all with a view to optimizing your health, raising your energy levels, and thereby living life more fully.
Ayurveda offers hundreds and hundreds of health tips that are easy to understand and highly practical, but require discipline and commitment. Over time, the small sacrifices accrue and the benefits become so glaringly obvious that we wish we had started long ago.
