My Yoga Journey

Francesca Auteri is a yoga teacher, tango teacher and performer, based Catania, Italy. In this interview, she shares her yoga journey and motivation for practicing yoga. 

What does yoga mean to you?

Yoga, to me, means deep connection between mind and body, deep knowledge of ourselves, of our thoughts, of our fears, of our weakness and of our strength. It's the best way to learn how to stay in the present, how to live here, how to feel the world around us and inside us.

​When did you first start practicing yoga and why?

I started practicing yoga almost 10 years ago. I was studying contemporary dance and I wanted to improve some skills... I tried my first class and I totally fell in love with this discipline. Immediately!​

Were you ever resistant to learn yoga? 

Never. I really fell immediately in love with yoga and with its process of learning.​

How has yoga impacted your life?

Yoga has completely changed my all life. Before I was more in the future, more disconnected with my inner soul and with what my body was trying to tell me. Thanks to yoga I've learned how to face my fears; I'm more grounded; I'm knowing myself deeply. I'm still in the process, because yoga is a never ending process.​

Why should someone practice yoga? ​

As I've already said before, yoga is useful for many things: your body will be stronger, fitter, healthier. Your mind will be calmer and more focused. Your soul will be more connected to what is around you and inside you. So, choose one of these reasons (or all of them), and start your yoga journey.

What are your favourite asanas and why?

So hard this question, so hard to choose only some of them! 

Well, Sirsasana (headstand), cause it's really amazing to refresh your body and to boost your circulation and your brain activity. 

Trikonasana (triangle), apparently so simple but so hard, so complex, so subtile in the alignment.

Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward dog), a good asana to prepare all the inversion and to strengthen all the body.

I could continue for ever, but I have to stop! 

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just... Let's start practicing yoga!
