My Yoga Journey

Promise Boutelle is a yoga teacher, massage therapist, and health coach in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, USA. In this interview, she shares her yoga journey and motivation for practicing yoga.
What does yoga mean to you?
For me, yoga is a a way of connecting mind, body, and spirit with breath and movement. It elevates my vibration to my higher and spiritual self. Yoga provides me consistency, yet encourages me to grow and expand.
When did you first start practicing yoga and why?
I started practicing yoga more consistently only about five years ago. When I first started, I noticed the silence within my mind and blissful emotional state. I started feeling more connected to my body and aware of my thoughts. My practice inspired me to make healthier life choices and to follow my true passions.
Were you ever resistant or hesitant to learn yoga? If yes, how did that change?
I was resistant to certain aspects in yoga, such as arm balances and handstands. I felt that I was not good enough to even attempt them. This changed when I decided to no longer allow fear to control me. I learned that it is okay to fail, because this is an important part of the learning process. I've also realized I would rather try my best at everything I do than to live with regrets.
How has yoga impacted your life?
Yoga has provided a huge spiritual connection for me. It has been a gentle guide, leading me to my soul's calling and self acceptance. It has impacted me on a physical, mental, emotional, and energetic level.

Why should someone practice yoga?
What are your favourite asanas and why?
Half moon pose – I feel like I could grow wings and fly away.
Standing bow pose – I just feel like a badass.
