Virgina Edmond-Kent is a yoga teacher based in Lincolnshire, England. She also paints and runs an art and apparel line called Woke Nomad. In this interview, she shares his yoga journey and inspiration for practicing yoga.
What does yoga mean to you?Yoga means freedom in my connection to spirit. An exploration of that energy that is more than physical. Arrival in my truest form. Release. The doorway to a more meaningful and magical life! It has transformed the way I relate to everything. From my relationship to my own breath, life, nature and others.
When did you first start practicing yoga and why?I started five years ago doing a little DVD in my bedroom while going through a dark night of the soul. Its effects on me were subtle but unknowingly brought me to my first steps of realisation. Then I started practicing more regularly after a heartbreak. Since then yoga teacher training expanded my understanding of yoga to something more than just a physical practice. Meditation and breath-work were the gateway to a deeper understanding of life.

The physical practice has taught me I can do anything I put my mind to, while meditation has brought me to a deeper connection with my own guidance system.
Were you ever resistant to learn yoga?I was a little daunted when I first started going to group classes as everybody seemed to know what they were doing and appeared so strong! But that changed quickly after my first sweaty shavasana in a studio in Hackney, London.
How has yoga impacted your life?Yoga has helped me to stay grounded in times of upheaval in my life. The physical practice has taught me I can do anything I put my mind to, while meditation has brought me to a deeper connection with my own guidance system. In turn, this has helped me to align with magical experiences, travel adventures and encounters with all sorts of people all over the world.

Why should someone practice yoga? Yoga is for everyone and I think that if you want to find a connection to something more spiritual but don't know where to start, then the physical practice of yoga can gently ease you in. The effect on the energy body then helps the law of attraction to kick-in and suddenly synchronicities start falling into place and giving you the answers to deeper questions that you didn't even realise you were asking. That's how yoga is. Sneaky but in a good way!
What are your favourite asanas and why?Handstand! And all the arm balances. I just feel so free when I get upside down or balance. It's like a surefire way to enter flow state!

Yoga will change your life if you let it, but it's important to give it a chance.
Is there anything else you would like to add?Yoga will change your life if you let it, but it's important to give it a chance. Not every teacher will be for you but I guarantee there are amazing teachers out there. So if you try it once and you are not sold, then try again!
Virgina's yoga journey teaches us that yoga is much more than a physical practice. It is a pathway to your own spirituality and inner guide, which results in positive energy, synchronistic encounters, and answers to important questions you may asking. Namaste!
