An Introduction to Dr. Franklin’s Panchakarma Institute
Dr. Franklin’s Panchakarma Institute is a 40-minute drive from Trivandrum International Airport (TRV). It specializes in Ayurvedic detoxification (panchakarma) and post-trauma physical rehabilitation.
Back in 2015, I met an interesting guest at Dr. Franklin’s. His name was Juri (name disguised). He was Russian, very tall, friendly, and probably in his early 50s. He shared with me his inspiring story.
Prior to discovering Ayurveda, Juri was a highly active sportsman and avid swimmer whose life took a drastic turn in 2010. He was involved in a severe car accident and was nearly paralyzed. Unable to swim and barely able to lift his arms, he was advised by a friend to go to Dr. Franklin’s for Ayurvedic treatment. On his first visit, he stayed for three months and walked out of Dr. Franklin’s as a new man. He witnessed such a transformation that he decided to return to the same resort every year.
The above incident is a true story. I met Juri on his fifth visit to Dr. Franklin’s, when he explained his miraculous recovery from a crippling injury. He beamed with immense gratitude that he could swim and enjoy sports at a level comparable to just before the accident, thanks to Dr. Franklin and his team.
In my own personal health journey, I have found better Ayurvedic treatment at other resorts such as Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre in Mysore and Athreya Ayurvedic Centre in Kottayam, but each to his own. I nonetheless enjoyed my stay at Dr. Franklin’s and met people like Juri whose lives had been transformed.
Every resort has its strengths and weaknesses. For long duration stays and value for money, Dr. Franklin’s is certainly a worthy Ayurvedic destination.
Here are the key features of Dr. Franklin’s Panchakarma Institute:
Most Ayurveda resorts do not have a gym or fitness centre. Therefore, if having a fitness centre is important to you, then Dr. Franklin’s may be a good option. However, keep in mind that the fitness equipment at this resort is modest, not state-of-the-art.
If budget is not a constraint and you want a beach resort with Ayurveda, yoga, a solid gym, and amazing ambience, then Niraamaya Retreats Surya Samudra is a better alternative.
If a beach is not important but you want a wellness resort with a state-of-the-art gym, personal trainers, physiotherapists, large swimming pool, aquatics, aerobics, TRX and luxury accommodations, then consider Atmantan Wellness Resort.
Coming back to Dr. Franklin’s Panchakarma Institute, bear in mind that it has four different room categories whose quality and comfort vary enormously. It is important to pick the right room; otherwise, if you are not comfortable, it will affect your sleep as well as the effectiveness of treatment.
When in doubt, talk to Ayurooms. Helping you pick the right room at the right resort, and at the right price, is what we do.
